Molweni!

Our accommodation changed from orphanage to Riverview Lodge. The funny thing about that is the fact that the view is not on a river, but on a railway. We had a six persons room with bamboo bunk beds, which was very small, but cosy. For dinner we ordered some pizzas, after dinner we worked on school. This night was a long and horrible one, Julia and Pleuni were up all night. At 5 am everyone was awake, both girls got sick and Laura was handing out dextro’s. After some hours most of us fall asleep. The next morning we had breakfast at half past 8, Julia and Pleuni stayed in bed. The rest of us was preparing the interviews for that afternoon, finishing the blog and vlog and working out the surveys. We went to the Spar to get some food for ourselves and took care of our sick roomies. In the afternoon we went back to Khayelitsha to visit Loyiso. We had an interview with him and some other entrepreneurs. After that two boys picked us up to go canoeing! It seemed very unlogic to us, because we haven’t seen a river so far in Khayelitsha.

groep blog 3It turned out to be a ditch. The canoeing was ver

y nice and we had a lot of fun, especially on our way back because of the strong wind. The boys were enthusiastic and taking a lot of pictures, together they looked like the African version of Geer&Goor. After this we went back to Look Out Hill, near to the headquarter of Khayelitsha Travel, we had an interiew with Johnny. It was a good conversatio
n and we did get a lot of important information for our research. Kevin, our quiet but cute driver, drove us back to the River View Lodge. We had to do a lot of work for school, so we decided to get our dinner from the Spar. Which was kind of strange, but there was a lot of choice and it was pretty good.

The next day, Julia and Pleuni did feel a lot better and with the whole group together we did a bicycle tour. We drove from Sea Point to the Waterfront along the boulevard. Diede turned out to be a man who isn’t possible to multitask, because she drove against a pole while making a picture of a palm tree.

She felt off of her orange bike, but luckily had no wounds. At the Waterfront we accidently saw the other groups from

Saturday we had to get up a bit early to pack our bags and go to Guguletu, another township. We did a 2,5 hour walking tour through the township and even went inside a shack. The people were very open-minded and friendly, most of them were welcoming us and the kids ran into our arms and hugged us. Inside the shack it was bloody hot, it is almost unbelievable how people can live with those circumstances. After the tour we had some relaxing time and enjoyed the sun on the large balcony. At 6 we had a typical African barbecue. The rooms at Liziwe’s Guesthouse were very beautiful, which is kind of surprising in comparis

on with the other hostels and guesthouses we’ve seen. After dinner, Donald (owner of Liziwe’s Guesthouse) told us about his life. His life was not easy, and his story was very touching. With his laughter and proud in our mind we also thought of something fun. We did a fun game with group c.

On Sunday we had breakfast at Liziwe’s with hamburgers, which is normal in the Xhosa culture. We had to pack our bags again and went to the Winelands. Johnny was giving us a tour through Stellenbosch and after that we had free time to go shopping, drinking coffee and had lunch. For lunch we went to Ome Samie Se Winkel, and it was very delicious! At our way back to the bus, Johnny arranged a performance of a local dancing group consisting of children. Diede and Pleuni were the lucky ones to join the dancing. It was very funny. Kevin was more chatty than other days and even joined us for lunch, he drove us to the Zevenwacht Wine Estate. We had a cellar tour and tasted 5 different wines. Our opinions among the taste of the wines were divided. Most of them were tasteful and some of us bought some bottles. We were happy on our way back, because we were going to the backpack again, our favourite hostel. For dinner we went to the fat cactus, which is a Mexican restaurant. Our friends, Q and Sihle came by and we had a drink with them. It was nice to see them again! They didn’t changed at all. We had a beer at the backpack with the whole group and some international boys.

Now we are going to jump in the pool, because it is too hot to function.
